New York Cosmos B have kept their journey towards the NPSL Championship alive with a 2-0 win over FC Frederick in the NPSL Northeast Regional Semi-final.
For the first time in three games, Carlos Mendes’ men have finished off they’re opponent’s in regulation time.
The first legitimate chance for the hosts to open the game’s scoring came in the 15th minute. After being sent down the right side of the field, Danny Szetela took a touch to continue his movement down the pitch prior to moving the ball. The midfielder sent a cross into the box, finding teammate, Wojtek Wojcik who’s header landed into the hands of FC Frederick’s goalkeeper.
Although it would take until stoppage time, Cosmos B were able to find a go ahead goal prior to halftime. It would be Zaire Bartley who would find the back of the net, slotting a shot into the right side of the net with his right foot.
Bartley has been a postseason hero for Cosmos B, scoring a goal in all three of their last games, helping them reach where they are today.
The 20 year-old would go on to finish the game with a brace following his 77th minute goal. From the center of midfield, Danny Szetela found Bartley making a run ahead of him, sending him at goal. Bartley took a touch to move the ball to his right foot and sent a shot at goal. The Jamaican was able to get his shot off before facing a challenge, firing his shot into the back of the net.
The boys in green would go on to keep a clean sheet for the remainder of the game, winning 2-0 and advancing to the NPSL Northeast Regional Final.
