A five goal thriller in Brooklyn saw New York Cosmos B narrowly exit the US Open Cup in the play-in round.

The match, which took place at the athletic facility at LIU Brooklyn, saw the visiting Cosmos B enjoy a bulk of possession in the first 45 minutes.

Against the run off play, the Brooklyn Italians began the game’s scoring in the 31st minute. A long pass found Italian’s midfielder Giuseppe Barone who found success in flicking it past Cosmos keeper, Macklin Robinson.

Luckily for the visitors, Bledi Bardic was able to find an equalizer just five minutes later. Center-back, Chris Wingert, found the forward with an impressive pass, allowing Bardic to go around Brooklyn keeper, Michael Bernardi, and slot the ball into the back of the net.

Both sides went into halftime with a goal a piece, knowing they’d have to come out with something special in order to advance in the tournament.

It took thirteen minutes into the second period for the hosts to find their second lead of the game, this time coming from forward, Rasmus Hansen. The #10 appeared to have put his side in a good place to see a result, however the Italian’s lead lasted just a minute.

From the restart, Wojciech Wojcik found himself in front of goal, slotting his shot into the back of the net.

Both sides battled back and forth in an attempt to find a winning goal, including a shot from Bledi Bardic which fired off the post.

Unfortunately for Cosmos B, it was the Brooklyn Italians who found the game’s fifth and final goal just five minutes from the final whistle.

Upon finding space from himself along the right side of the field, Rasmus Hansen received the ball and wasted no time running at goal. The forward got past a Cosmos B defender, firing his second goal of the game past Robinson with his left foot.

The Italians move on to the fist round of the US Open Cup where they will take on Lansdowne Bhoys.

Cosmos B will look to bounce back to winning form when they take on the Italians once again, this time in NPSL action. That match will take place on May 15th at 8pm at Hofstra Soccer Stadium.
