After an undefeated NPSL season thus far, New York Cosmos B have been eliminated from the playoffs following a 3-2 loss against FC Motown.

The game would be a second half thriller as it saw all five of the game’s goals. The first, coming in the 53rd minute was scored by the visiting FC Motown. From the left side of the field, Chris Katona sent in a cross to teammate Calderon at the far post. The pass landed right at the feet of John Neeskens, however the defender mishandled the ball and let it go through his legs. Calderon capitalized on the error and finished the ball into the back of the net.

It would only take seven minutes for Motown to double their lead, this time coming from Katona. The striker was sent towards goal with an over the top pass from his own half, giving him space to run.

Cosmos B keeper, Tenjo, was drawn out of the goal but decided against leaving his box to challenge Katona. This proved to be a mistake as Katona took a pair of touches and slotted his shot home.

The visitors would go in to score a third straight unanswered goal in the 72nd minute courtesy of a penalty kick. It would be Dilly Duka who would step up to the spot, firing his shot into the left side of the net, sending Tenjo the wrong way.

Despite spirts being low, Cosmos B would go on to score two goals in stoppage time.

After receiving the ball from several yards outside the eighteen, Ivan Berterame turned and immediately fired at goal. Berterame’s shot flew out of the reach of Motown keeper, Kabo’s hands and into the top right of goal.

It would be Berterame who would score again in added time, this occasion being a much easier goal. Following a free-kick sent in by Espinal, Berterame would be at the right place at the right time to redirect Kabo’s parry into the back of the net.

Just needing one goal Cosmos B fans were hopeful when Espinal stepped up for another free-kick shortly after. Espinal’s shot was met by a diving Kabo, and immediately followed by the game’s final whistle.

Despite being down 3 goals, Carlos Mendes’ men showed great fight to almost bring the game level in stoppage time however their efforts went without reward.

FC Motown will now go on to the National semifinal where they will take on FC Mulhouse Portland for a spot in the National Championship game.
