The New York Cosmos outreach has picked up steam in recent months; we’ve seen several bars sign up as official Cosmos pub partners. Banter Bar, at 132 Havemeyer Street in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, is one of the latest, and a great home away from home. With at least twenty beers on tap at any given time, including a cask ale the last time I was there, they have something for everyone. They also offer small-plate food – from bratwurst to vegetable curry pies. Banter is within walking distance of the Marcy Ave J, M, Z , Metropolitan Ave G train station and the Lorimer St L train stations.
Viewing parties for away matches are often hosted by members of the Green Legion, of the Five Points. The Green Legion are hoping to make the viewing parties a regular occurrence, and looking for fans interested in supporting their club to make regular appearances.
There are two large projection screens and a number of smaller televisions, so Banter is great for situations where two matches of interest are occurring simultaneously. It is a true soccer destination, judging from the many scarves – including Cosmos green and white – hanging from the wall, and from their above-and-beyond effort in setting up a large laptop so German D2 club dual-supporters could catch their non-televised semifinal match alongside their Cosmos. If you’re looking for a small-pub experience dedicated to global soccer (smaller than Woodwork), Banter is a great place to check out.
