Following last weekend’s 2-1 loss in San Francisco, the New York Cosmos seek to return to winning ways ahead of their clash with FC Edmonton on Friday.
Unlike the Cosmos, FC Edmonton were able to claim all three points in their second Fall Season fixture. Despite losing to them at home the week earlier, the Eddies topped Indy Eleven 3-1. Two goals from Dustin Correa and one from Albert Watson lead the way in their away victory.
In California, the result went the way of the home side, the San Francisco Deltas. Despite Pablo Vranjicán putting the Cosmos ahead just three minutes in. Patrick Hopkins and Tommy Heinemann found the back of the net, helping the Deltas cruise to victory.
With both sides beginning the 2017 NASL Fall Season with both a win and a loss, it’s important for both clubs to continue their winning ways before its too late. After finishing seventh in the Spring Season, the Eddies would realistically need a Fall Season victory to claim a spot in The Championship. The Cosmos, finishing in third place during the seasons first half would also like a Fall title but a finish at the top would also secure the boys in green a spot in The Championship.
Who to Watch
For the Cosmos, striker Pablo Vranjicán is a big impact on the games result. Scoring in the previous game, the Argentine has two goals to his name for the boys in green in five starts.
Midfielder Eric Calvillo is also one to keep an eye out in this one. In the six games that he has appeared in this season, Calvillo has found the back of the net three times and assisted once.
Eddies midfielder, Dustin Correa, is another player who has been in good form recently. With the two goals scored last time out, Correa is the second highest goalscorer at the club, tallying four. With three assists, the 25 year-old is also second in that statistic as well.
You can catch this Fall Season matchup, Friday August 11th at 9 pm on ESPN3.
