After being excluded from the 2018 edition of the Lamar Hunt US Open Cup, US Soccer and the Open Cup Committee have granted New York Cosmos B a spot in the tournament.
This move was possible due to the Cosmos’ appeal letter which was published on March 15th. You can read that letter here.
The Cosmos are not the only NASL affiliated NPSL club to be granted participation, Miami FC 2 and Jacksonville Armada U-23 will also be apart of play-in games.
“This is a victory for our fans,” said Rocco Commisso, the team’s hairman. “I said that I would continue to fight for the Cosmos and for independent soccer. This is a win off the field and now we have a chance to win on it.”
New York Cosmos B will take part in a play-in game, the match will take place on either May 5th or 6th. Their opponent, host venue and kick-off time will be determined at a later date.
It’s likely we will see a change in the Cosmos B NPSL schedule as the team was set to kick off the NPSL season May 5th against Boston City FC.
