The North American Soccer League (NASL) announced today that Puerto Rico FC will play it’s remaining Fall Season games on the U.S. mainland. Two of PRFC’s remaining home games will be played at opponent facilities, while another two have been moved to neutral sites in Florida.
The Cosmos announced yesterday that the club will host one additional home match at MCU Park against Puerto Rico FC on Saturday, October 28 at 7:00 pm. Tickets for the match are now available here.
New York will play their second match against Puerto Rico FC on Wednesday, October 18 at Central Broward Stadium in Lauderhill, Fl. Kickoff time for this match has yet to be determined. Central Broward Stadium was the home of the Fort Lauderdale Strikers last season.
“Our thoughts are with the people of Puerto Rico as the island continues its recovery from Hurricane Maria,” said NASL Interim Commissioner Rishi Sehgal. “We felt that it was necessary to move Puerto Rico FC’s remaining home games off the island to allow the recovery efforts to focus solely on the needs of the Puerto Rican people. We look forward to bringing the joy and community created by the club back to Puerto Rico in the near future.”
NASL officials have been coordinating with Puerto Rico FC, along with other clubs from around the league, to identify alternate facilities for the Caribbean club’s remaining home games, as well as hotel accommodations for the team on the U.S. mainland.
